Happy Monday GPODers!
You don’t need palettes of expensive plants or fancy gardening equipment and materials to build the garden of your dreams, and Cortney Farris (@vintagegardenky) in Leitchfield, Kentucky (Zone 7) is a gardener who understands that. To create the cottage garden abundance that she loves, Cortney utilizes winter-sown seeds in plastic bags and turns to second-hand vintage treasures to add personality and style to her flower-filled oasis. It might require a little more effort, a good eye for interesting art, and some flexing of creative muscles, but the end result is a joyous space that rewards Cortney with its beauty.
A cottage-style Kentucky garden filled with winter-sown flowers, family heirlooms, and vintage charm. What began as seeds in Ziploc bags has grown into a colorful retreat overflowing with poppies, bachelor’s buttons, herbs, and memories.
A cottage garden blend of red poppies and blue bachelor’s buttons (Centaurea cyanus, annual).
An American Legion poppy (Papaver rhoeas ‘American Legion’, annual) begins to emerge as the afternoon sun sets the tone for the evening.
The silky petals of this After Midnight poppy (Papaver somniferum ‘After Midnight’, annual) make for a dreamy addition to the garden.
Filled with poppies, bachelor’s buttons, and layers of spillers and fillers, this weathered jon boat has become the heart of my Kentucky cottage garden.
Nestled beside the porch, this peach foxglove (Digitalis purpurea ‘Dalmatian Peach’, Zones 4–9) feels like something straight from an old cottage garden.
Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful blooms and creative scenes from your garden with us, Cortney! The color and whimsy you have cultivated is wonderful.
