Seana’s Happy Place in Michigan

Happy Monday, GPOD! We’re nearing November, but the weather has been pretty mild here in the Midwest. Plenty of flowers are still going strong, and it looks like we might get to enjoy a little more color before the season comes to an end. Today we’re visiting Seana in Sterling Heights, Michigan, who sent us a few photos of her flower garden and the plants that are still thriving. Let’s take a look!

Just my happy place.

Michigan home garden, red and pink impatiens, flowering annuals, green ferns, lush foundation planting, Sterling Heights garden

Home and happiness!

Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana cvs., annual) provide instant color in this shady border beside Seana’s house, filling the gaps as they weave between hostas and ferns. The tall plant at the front of the photo is cutleaf coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata, Zones 3–9), also known as green-headed coneflower.

Looking into the garden.

Orange-red coneflower, Echinacea flower, dark central cone, narrow petals, Michigan summer garden

Coneflower. Likely Sombrero Sangrita coneflower (Echinacea ‘Balsomgit’, Zones 4–9), with its rich red-orange petals and prominent dark central cone.

Thank you for sharing your happy place with us, Seana! Every garden has something worth appreciating, and sometimes a few photos—or even just one—are all it takes to share something you’re proud of, no matter the scale. That’s what GPOD is all about! What plants are still going strong in your garden this fall? We’d love to see!
